Abstract: An Invitation to Autoethnographic Research in TESOL
Autoethnography is a burgeoning qualitative approach in which researchers position themselves as the research subject to better understand sociocultural complexities. Through an autoethnographic lens, Sanae reflects on her teaching practices and identity formation to investigate critical factors that may hinder learning effectiveness in the Japanese EFL context and to explore ways to bridge these gaps. This presentation demonstrates that autoethnography can serve as a legitimate and rigorous tool in applied linguistics, opening new interdisciplinary pathways for TESOL research.
アブストラクト: TESOLにおけるオートエスノグラフィック研究への招待
オートエスノグラフィーとは、社会文化的複雑性をより深く理解するために、研究者が自らを研究対象として位置づける、急速に発展している質的アプローチである。サナエは、オートエスノグラフィーの視点を通じて、自身の教授実践とアイデンティティ形成を振り返り、日本のEFL（英語を外国語として学ぶ）の文脈において学習効果を阻害しうる重要な要因を調査するとともに、そのギャップを埋める方法を模索している。本発表は、オートエスノグラフィーが応用言語学において正当かつ厳密なツールとなり得ることを示し、TESOL研究に新たな学際的な道筋を切り開くものである。

Bio: Sanae is a full-time lecturer at Ochanomizu University in Tokyo. She holds an MA in TESOL from Teachers College, Columbia University and a PhD in applied linguistics from Ochanomizu University. She also serves as a communication consultant, leveraging her business background. Her research interests include communicative task effectiveness, L2 pragmatics, and teacher identity.
シーハン小田早苗：お茶の水女子大学講師。外資系企業勤務を経てコロンビア大学ティーチャーズカレッジにて英語教授法修士、お茶の水女子大学にて応用言語学博士号取得。コミュニケーション改善のための語用論的指導およびそれを促進する教師のアイデンティティについて質的アプローチによる研究を行っている。
