Abstract (150-300 words) 要旨 (300-500字)
In the “after-ChatGPT” era, educators face a critical challenge: how to integrate Generative AI (GAI) without sacrificing student agency or authentic voice. This presentation proposes a transformative solution by integrating GAI into an Arts-Rich Translanguaging Pedagogy (ARTP) framework (Choi et al., 2024, 2025). Moving beyond the “monolingual English-only habitus” that often positions multilingual learners as deficient, this approach views GAI not merely as a tool for efficiency, but as a “semiotic mediator” within a learner's complex meaning-making meshwork (Cowley, 2011; Slamet et al., 2025). The session will explore “process-level” translanguaging, where learners use AI as a bridge for translation, adaptation, and refinement rather than simple text generation. This presentation The presenter examines how GAI can support the creation of multimodal artifacts that draw upon students’ full linguistic and cultural repertoires. By combining technical affordances like image generation with creative arts practices, learners can make their thinking visible and assert their identities across academic contexts. Participants will leave with concrete strategies for “iterative prompting” — a cycle of writing, translating, and revising that deepens students’ metacognitive awareness and understanding of their authorial voice. Attendees will learn practical ways to scaffold GAI interactions for specific tasks, such as idea generation, error correction, and visual arts creation. Ultimately, this talk provides a roadmap for using technology as a collaborative partner to cultivate resilient, multilingual learner identities.
