The four-level In Focus series systematically develops learners' high-frequency vocabulary through the New General Service List (NGSL), with the fourth level introducing the New Academic Word List (NAWL). This presentation explores the corpus-informed principles behind the series, including vocabulary selection, recycling, lexical progression, and integrated skills instruction. Classroom examples will demonstrate practical techniques for teaching vocabulary more efficiently while simultaneously developing learners' communicative competence and critical thinking skills.
