Description
High-frequency vocabulary words boost fluency and TOEIC scores, yet many EFL learners struggle to retain and use them. This presentation demonstrates online tools for extracting high-frequency words from course materials, creating tests, and reviewing them as a learning community. Attendees will learn how to use digital versions of the NGSL and TOEIC wordlists to build students’ motivation, confidence, and fluency through collaborative vocabulary learning inside and outside the classroom.

Abstract
High-frequency vocabulary is essential for enabling meaningful communication, yet many EFL learners struggle to remember and actively use common vocabulary items (Nation, 2013). Increased knowledge of high frequency words can increase TOEIC scores and build overall fluency.
To develop student fluency, the presenter created a quick and effective system of using online tools to extract high frequency words from materials, create tests, and review these items as a learning community using online tools.
This deliberate vocabulary learning (Webb & Nation, 2017) will enable learners to build competence within classroom communities rather than studying in isolation.
This presentation will teach teachers how to use Browne’s NGSL and TOEIC wordlists in conjunction with online Quizlet activities, etc. to create communities of learning inside and outside of the classroom.
Students will collaborate while using and creating these vocabulary reviews which increases recycling, confidence and exposure to new target vocabulary words. This system increases individual and group motivation and builds fluency.
Attendees will learn how to select high-frequency vocabulary, how to generate shared digital study resources, and link vocabulary review to course goals. Attendees will also be able to participate in an example of classroom implementation.
