SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
The SUTLF Call for Proposals is now open. Each submission will be double-blind peer-reviewed before the abstract chair makes a decision. We look forward to your submission. Please note, an individual can only be the lead presenter on a single submission.
Although we accept presentations from a wide range of education-related fields, we encourage all presenters to explicitly link their presentations to the conference theme. To aid in this process, we offer a list of guiding questions to help potential presenters craft and align their messages with our theme.
• How can educators help students to build confidence and trust in their own communicative skill set?
• How do learners build trust in what they already know (without immediately grabbing their phones).
• How can classroom activities encourage risk-taking, improvisation, and meaningful interaction?
• What practical strategies help students draw on their existing linguistic and cultural resources rather than searching for the "perfect" answer?
• How self-aware are we, really, of the mindsets and behaviors involved in our daily communications?
• What influences the way we convey our messages? Are we thinking, for example, about the emotional states that are affecting our interlocutors and how our messages are being received?
• What actions can we take to identify problems in our own communications and implement new (better) tactics, continue practicing effective ones, and stop those that are getting in the way?
Travel Grant – SUTLF 11
NanKyu JALT is pleased to offer up to three travel grants for presenters at SUTLF 11.
The grant is open to both individual presenters and those coming to Kumamoto as a group, including students and professionals. Its purpose is to support presenters who have limited access to institutional funding or who have already exhausted available travel or research funds.
Grant Coverage
Successful applicants will receive:
Conference registration fee waiver
Conference dinner fee waiver
Reimbursement of transportation expenses
Hotel accommodation reimbursement
Funding is available for up to ¥40,000 per individual. Group awards may be adjusted based on the number of presenters and available funding.
Eligibility and Priority
Applicants must be presenting at SUTLF 11 and reside within Kyushu.
While the grant is open to all eligible presenters in Kyushu, priority may be given to applicants who:
Live outside Kumamoto City, and
Reside within the NanKyu region, including Kagoshima, Miyazaki, Nagasaki, and Kumamoto Prefectures.

To apply, please submit a brief statement with your abstract that includes:
Your background (student or professional)
Your current location
Whether this is an individual or group application
For group applications, the number of participants and planned mode of transportation to Kumamoto
A brief explanation of why you are seeking financial support
Applications will be reviewed by the SUTLF Conference Committee, and awards will be made based on demonstrated need, available funding, and alignment with the goals of the grant. Edits can be made until the deadline for the Call for Proposals.
