This study explores how a short-term internship in the Philippines (N=11) supports Japanese students’ cultural intelligence (CQ). Using surveys, observations, and written reflections, we explore how guided reflection and intentional host engagement, scaffolded through the LENS³ framework, might foster deeper intercultural competence.
Summary
This mixed-methods study (N=11) explores the role of study abroad in fostering cultural intelligence (CQ), using pre-post CQ surveys, observational data, and interviews. Participants engaged in an educational internship in the Philippines with pre-departure training based on the LENS³ Journaling framework. The study examines how structured reflection and experiential learning contribute to intercultural competence development.
