As a tribute to author Marc Helgesen, English Firsthand series editor Michael Rost will outline the history of this successful series, highlighting key educational principles that have guided its development through five editions. These principles are represented as 5 “e’s”: entertainment, engagement, expression, elaboration, and embodiment. For each of these principles, several examples from the series will be illustrated.
