Description

This study examines how individual aptitude and motivation interact in Chinese international high school CLIL contexts. While CLIL research has largely focused on Europe, studies in China remain limited. Using a mixed-methods design, the project will combine aptitude and motivation tests with classroom observations, interviews, and critical incident reports. By analysing how aptitude shapes motivational dynamics and language outcomes, the study aims to inform CLIL pedagogy and support more individualized approaches to second language learning.

Summary

This presentation will introduce a doctoral research project investigating how individual aptitude and language learning motivation will interact in Chinese international high school CLIL classrooms. Drawing on theories such as Directed Motivational Currents and Self-Determination Theory, the study will adopt a mixed-methods approach, combining aptitude and motivation tests with interviews, classroom observations, and case studies. The project aims to provide new insights into dynamic motivational processes and to inform pedagogical practices for supporting diverse learners.
