This study investigates students’ perception regarding the use of ChatGPT in their English learning process. The findings emphasize that ChatGPT is favored among students who believe it has a beneficial effect on their English language acquisition. However, this reliance also causes adverse impacts on their social and emotional issues. Therefore, this study suggests further exploration of the effects of using ChatGPT on students’ social and emotional development to help them thrive in their learning.
Summary
Due to the increasingly widespread use of ChatGPT in EFL context, there is a need for analyzing students’ insights and experiences. Filling that gap, this study investigates students' perception towards employing ChatGPT in their English learning process. The findings highlight the ChatGPT popularity among students for the belief that ChatGPT has positively influenced their English language learning. However, this dependence also leads to negative impact on students’ social and emotional learning.
