Description
The discontinuation of the Macmillan Collocations Dictionary created a gap for learners and educators. This study employed ChatGPT to replicate its functions by generating collocations, semantic groupings, and Traditional Chinese translations. Teachers and EFL students evaluated the tool’s accuracy and usability, reporting highly positive feedback. Results demonstrate the effectiveness of this AI-based resource and highlight its potential role in language education and the broader integration of generative AI in learning contexts.
Summary
The discontinuation of the Macmillan Collocations Dictionary created a resource gap for ESL learners. To address this, we used OpenAI ChatGPT to replicate its services by crafting prompts to generate useful collocations. We further evaluated the system's accuracy and usability by inviting feedback from teachers and EFL students. This AI tool produced valuable collocates and received positive feedback, underscoring its potential as an educational resource and prompting discussion on AI’s role in language education.
