Iterative Intentionality: A Practical Approach to Values Work
Format: 60-minute practice-oriented workshop
Background: This workshop aims to introduce the concept of iterative intentionality and its implications for values work in educational settings. Values work is the process of creating, maintaining, and changing values in organizations and institutions (Andersson, 2022).
Content: The workshop will consist of three parts: Part 1: Theoretical background. We will review the main ideas and definitions of intentionality, agency, and values work, and how they are interconnected. We will also discuss the challenges and opportunities of studying values and values work empirically; Part 2: Case studies. We will present and analyze some examples of values work in different educational contexts, such as schools, universities, and professional development programs. We will focus on how actors display different degrees of intentionality and agency in relation to their values and the values of their organizations; Part 3: Practical exercises. We will engage in some interactive activities to apply the concept of iterative intentionality to our own values and values work. We will use various methods, such as interviews, observations, and reflections, to explore how we can become more aware of and responsive to the feedback we receive from our environment.
Aims: To explain the concept of iterative intentionality in values work environments.
Outcomes: The workshop is designed for educators, researchers, and practitioners who are interested in learning more about values and values work, and how to enhance their own iterative intentionality. The workshop will provide both theoretical insights and practical tools for values work in educational settings.
