Description
At Sojo University, there is a café space on the first floor of the English Building, but it has not been used for several years. As a student staff member of the Self-Access Learning Centre (SALC) which we call SALCer, I wanted to make this space lively again. I planned an event called SILC English Café, where students could order drinks in English and talk casually with teachers and other students. The aim was to see if this type of event could increase students’ interest in English and their use of the SALC. After each café event, participants answered a short questionnaire about their interest in English learning and frequency of using the SALC. The event was held once or twice a month, and some students joined several times. Data from the first semester of 2025 is now being analyzed. I hope to show how a relaxed and friendly English Café can make English learning more enjoyable and accessible for students.
