Description

The Self-Access Learning Center (SALC) at Sojo University has emphasized creating diverse and meaningful learning opportunities through collaboration with English curricula and student-centered initiatives. This means we have continuously revised and developed new activities to meet the evolving needs of students.
In recent years, we have focused on designing initiatives that align with the interests of STEAM-oriented students (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics), encouraging creativity, problem-solving and proactive engagement.
Rather than emphasizing English language study alone, these activities integrate use of English as a tool for expression, creativity, and community-building. Many ideas originate from student staff who play a central role in planning and implementing events for their peers. At the same time, the SALC has expanded cross-disciplinary collaborations with the pharmacy, mechanical engineering, and art departments, coordinated by faculty to broaden learning opportunities and foster innovation.
This poster introduces these micro-event initiatives and explains how we elicited ideas from students and supported them in transforming those ideas into real events. Through these collaborative and student driven activities, the SALC aims to cultivate an exciting, inclusive-learning community that empowers students to take ownership of their learning journey while using English as a bridge to connect, create, and collaborate.
