Abstractアブストラクト: Empathy-Building in the EFL Classroom

Empathy is considered crucial to intercultural communication. The presenter will first describe a study that examined a link between reading English haiku and empathy. This study found that reflecting upon English haiku over one semester led to a significant increase in the empathy levels of Japanese medical students. Next, the presenter will introduce activities that aim to increase empathy by making students aware of their own feelings, the feelings of others, and how to respond appropriately. Participants will leave this presentation armed with activities to help their own students become more empathetic communicators.

EFLにおける共感構築

文化コミュニケーションにおいて共感は極めて重要とされています。発表者はまず、英語の俳句を読むことと共感の関連性を検証した研究を紹介します。この研究では、日本の医学生が1学期にわたり英語の俳句を考察した結果、共感レベルが著しく向上したことが明らかになりました。次に、学生自身の感情や他者の感情を自覚させ、適切な対応方法を学ぶことで共感力を高める活動を紹介します。参加者は本発表を通じて、自身の学生がより共感的なコミュニケーション能力を身につけるための実践手法を習得できます。
