In recent years, the issue of Japanese learners acquiring English skills has been said to be very low. In fact, Japanese cannot get high scores on the TOEFL test, which rank at the bottom class in Asian countries. The Critical Period Hypothesis theory indicates that a language learner’s ability to acquire a language naturally and perfectly is limited to the certain age of early stages of life, the age around 6 years. Therefore, the role of English education in school is significant for children to acquire English. On the other hand, the native accent is very difficult to acquire as the period goes further. How do the adults who go past the period learn a second language? The purpose of this study is to examine which foreign language learning methods are most effective for different age groups and to provide useful suggestions for learners and teachers.
