Description
Japanese learners study English for many years through school education. However, many of them still struggle to understand English without relying on Japanese translation. This issue suggests that more effective learning approaches are needed. The purpose of this study is to examine how comprehensible input activities help Japanese learners understand English in meaningful contexts. In addition, this study explores the potential of generative AI as a tool to support comprehensible input. Unlike traditional textbooks, generative AI can provide personalized learning materials that match learner’s proficiency and interests. It can also generate comprehension questions and provide immediate feedback on learner’s answers. A questionnaire will be conducted for Japanese learners to investigate their English learning experience and their attitudes toward generative AI for English learning. This study aims to discuss how combining comprehensible input with generative AI may help Japanese leaders understand English in meaningful contexts.
