Description

As rising ethnonationalism, anti-DEI backlash, and growing polarization challenge commitments to equity and inclusion in Japan and around the world, it is more important than ever for us to reflect on the work of creating more just academic communities at JALT and beyond. This panel brings together long-time and newer JALT members committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion to explore the evolution of DEI efforts within our organization; from early initiatives to contemporary challenges and emerging priorities.

Through an intergenerational dialogue, panelists will reflect on successes, tensions, and lessons learned over the years, considering how far JALT has come and the work that remains. The discussion will invite us to envision collective strategies for sustaining and deepening DEI commitments in an increasingly complex landscape.
