This longitudinal study keeps track on five novice elementary school teachers who received a two-year preservice teacher preparation program based on TBLT (Task-based Language Teaching) and reveal how they try to “apply the teaching methods they were trained to use” (Farrell, 2012, p. 447) in their school contexts later as notice teachers for three years.

This session brings together two frameworks, Effortless Mindfulness (EM) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), to offer a direct, experience-based introduction to your inner world. We start with a short EM practice drawn from the work of Loch Kelly, just enough to help you step out of the constant stream of thinking and find a steadier, more open place to work from. From there, we explore the IFS...

This year’s JALT theme invites us to consider our language teaching profession as a call for us to prepare our students for engagement beyond the classroom. In this piece, I offer three ways in which we can meaningfully prepare our students for social participation: a shift in our mindset, a shift in our policies, and a shift in our practices.

This presentation examines how rural–urban disparities in Japan shape K–12 teaching and learning, particularly in language education. Using survey and interview data from a mixed‑methods study, the findings indicate that limited professional support, educator shortages, and demographic shifts restrict the adoption of change in rural schools. These structural differences influence instructional...
