Description

This phenomenological study of 14 female English language teachers in Nepal challenges the assumption that high socio-economic status (SES) supports professional growth. Drawing on socio-cultural, feminist, and capability perspectives, it shows elite family expectations and patriarchal norms can restrict career development. Participants reported ongoing struggles to sustain their professions amid pressures related to care, tradition, and prestige. The study concludes that higher SES may impose subtle constraints, requiring continuous negotiation of autonomy and professional identity.
