Abstract section 3: Content/method
The presenter will demonstrate a sequence of classroom activities built around a local poet and an international civil‑rights leader, showing how to integrate their texts into ELT lessons. He will model how to use translanguaging and mother‑tongue–based discussion to explore literary art and social movements, and guide participants through designing critical, reflection‑based tasks that juxtapose local and Western content to question power relations and help learners “voice the unvoiced” in their own contexts.

To demonstrate how English language instruction can address western content and cultural topics, while linking teaching and learning to local contexts. There is such a need as post-colonial contexts have had the legacies of English language culture(s) marginalizing local culture(s).
Abstract section 1: Relevance
The session tackles the dominance of Western content in post‑colonial classrooms and offers concrete ways to center domestic culture. By combining translanguaging, mother‑tongue–based pedagogy, and critical rhetoric, it links language teaching with social justice aims, illustrating how integrating local literature, art, history and social movements can decolonize ELT and empower marginalized voices.

Abstract section 4: Outcomes/results
Participants will learn to design ELT activities that integrate domestic cultural materials with selected English language cultural texts, using translanguaging and mother‑tongue–based strategies to support comprehension and critical discussion at different proficiency levels.
