Abstract section 3: Content/method
Automation for Forms, Sheets, and Report Cards will be introduced and explained in a step-by-step fashion, providing overviews of the scripts, formulas, and extensions necessary, along with visuals and videos. This presentation will cover the basic knowledge and the steps needed for successful automation of these administrative tasks, and pair it with takeaway guides and resources for prospective deployment in a wide variety of educational contexts.
Abstract section 4: Outcomes/results
Participants will gain practical, ready-to-implement knowledge to automate key administrative tasks in Google Sheets. They will learn to set up seamless Google Forms-to-Sheets response collection with automated processing; use formulas, scripts, and custom extensions to consolidate data from multiple Sheets efficiently; and build dynamic Report Card systems that display personalized student feedback on progress and attainment. Takeaways from this presentation include step-by-step guides, useful links, and resource lists, enabling instructors to quickly implement the ideas and contexts in their own classrooms, freeing up more time for teaching.
Abstract section 2: Contribution/research questions
The purpose of this practice-oriented presentation is to equip educators with actionable strategies to automate Google Sheets workflows across several common situations. These include the automation of (a) collecting Google Forms responses into a single database, (b) importing data-ranges in bulk from multiple Google Sheets, and (c) creating Report Cards for feedback on student progress and attainment. The session aims to bridge the gap between basic spreadsheet use and powerful automation for busy instructors.
Abstract section 1: Relevance
In today's education landscape, teachers face increasing administrative burdens alongside demands for data-informed instruction. While LMSs like Google Classroom can achieve much of this out-of-the-box, in institutions where such LMSs are not used or permitted instructors can still enhance their daily efficiency through tailored use of formulas and scripts. Such strategic deployment of formulas and scripts may help instructors save time on pre- and post-class admin, reduce errors, and provide them with useful student information at a glance, all of which can facilitate greater focus on practical pedagogy.
