This presentation discusses the use of learner-generated content in a first-year university English communication course. The creation of scrapbooks and videos is a core component of this course and aims to encourage student engagement, motivation and a dynamic classroom atmosphere. Additional benefits of these task-based methods include scaffolding of in-class conversation, content review, and practice. These activities are supported by a specifically designed textbook (LifeChat) and supplementary resources.
