Abstract section 2: Contribution/research questions
The purpose of this practice-oriented presentation is to provide language educators with a structured framework for "Deep Work" (Newport, 2016). By bridging the gap between productivity theory and the specific administrative demands of ELT, the session introduces seven adaptable tools. Participants will learn how to transition from reactive "task-fighting" to proactive project management, ultimately reclaiming time for research, materials development, and self-care.
Abstract section 3: Content/method
The presenter will first demonstrate the cognitive science behind "mind-dumping" and externalized memory. Following this, each of the seven tools will be showcased using common digital platforms (e.g., Google Sheets, Apple Pages, etc.). The session follows a "show-then-apply" format: the presenter demonstrates a tool, explains its specific application to common teaching tasks, and provides a digital template for participants to experiment with during the session.

Abstract section 4: Outcomes/results
Participants will leave with a comprehensive productivity toolkit including: (1) three-dimensional to-do lists for task prioritization; (2) a "project holding tank" for long-term goals; (3) weekly and (4) daily time-blocking templates; (5) protocols for "Deep Work" sessions to foster concentration; (6) "zero-drafting" techniques to overcome writing inertia; and (7) an extended working memory doc. By the end of the session, attendees will be able to implement a low-tech, high-impact system to mitigate digital distractions, manage administrative overwhelm, and improve their focus on core pedagogical and research objectives within their specific institutional contexts.
Abstract section 1: Relevance
In the post-digital language teaching landscape, educators face unprecedented "technostress" and cognitive fragmentation (Tarafdar, et al., 2015). The complexity of modern curriculum design and administrative duties often leads to professional burnout and reduced instructional efficacy. While pedagogical training is abundant, systematic training in personal knowledge management and cognitive workflow remains scarce in ELT. Drawing on Cognitive Load Theory (Sweller, 1988), this presentation argues that reducing extraneous cognitive load through externalized systems is essential for maintaining teaching quality and long-term professional well-being in the twenty-first-century university context.
