Description

As the foreign resident population grows, subtle forms of discrimination are becoming an increasingly relevant issue. These experiences can contribute to miscommunication and substandard medical care. Language educators are uniquely positioned to help address this challenge by preparing nursing students to recognize discrimination toward foreign residents and respond appropriately. This presentation will describe common forms of discrimination and offer non-confrontational classroom strategies to better equip nursing students for an increasingly diverse healthcare environment.
