Description
Teaching refugee issues in the EFL classroom requires navigating contested narratives while fostering students' critical engagement with global events. This presentation introduces a classroom approach using weekly refugee news journals, curated independent media, and a Primary Source Analysis Tool to evaluate source reliability, perspective, evidence, and representation. Through guided reflection and discussion, students compare diverse media narratives, question bias, and examine how refugee identities are constructed. The approach promotes equity by amplifying marginalised voices, develops learners' agency in evaluating information, and strengthens critical media literacy, intercultural awareness, and English communication through meaningful engagement with contemporary refugee issues.
