Description
This presentation will outline recent developments in inclusive education in Japan and summarize some practical strategies for increasing inclusion. Understanding of gender identity and sexual orientation diversity has recently been legislated in Japan, and while the law may indicate progress, dissemination of knowledge in schools has been lacking (Doi & Worden, 2023; ReBit, 2025). With this in mind, research by Maimon et al. (2023) provides a useful framework for creating an inclusive atmosphere. Therefore, the last portion of the presentation will introduce the concept of ISCs which we will then discuss and reflect on together.
