Abstract This presentation explores the role of English camp programs as preparatory activities for reducing learner anxiety in EFL contexts. Using examples from a university orientation camp, the study examines how structured interaction between teachers and students helps build trust and encourages communication. The presentation also discusses the relationship between language anxiety and willingness to communicate (WTC), demonstrating how such programs can help increase student confidence and participation.
アブストラクト:本発表では、EFL環境における学習者の不安軽減を目的とした事前活動としての英語キャンプ・プログラムの役割について考察する。大学のオリエンテーション・キャンプの事例をもとに、教員と学生の構造化された相互交流が、信頼関係の構築およびコミュニケーションの促進にどのように寄与するかを検討する。さらに、言語不安と言語使用への意欲（WTC: Willingness to Communicate）との関係についても論じ、このようなプログラムが学生の自信および授業参加の向上にどのように貢献するかを示す。

Bio: David James Townsend has been living and teaching in Japan for over 20 years. His main field of research is English language education in Japan, focusing on communicative task design, learner motivation, and writing pedagogy. His work draws on extensive classroom experience and emphasizes practical, context-sensitive approaches to enhancing student engagement and learning outcomes in university EFL settings.
